Bringing an all-new brand to the web

NP11 Website

The NP11

The NP11 brings together the 11 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) as the business voice from across the North of England on Northern Powerhouse policy and activity. Social was appointed by the NP11 in 2019 for a wider communications strategy brief, one element of which was the delivery of the organisation’s first ever website.

The challenge

NP11 required a website and digital content which clearly communicated their role and activities, created opportunities for businesses and other stakeholders to engage in their work, and amplified positive messages. The overall aim of the brief was to increase share of voice and visibility, working  with LEPs across the North to show that the region is greater than the sum of its parts.

Time was of the essence in the immediate aftermath of our appointment by NP11, as they required an effective web presence to be in place in time for the Convention of the North event in September 2019.

What we delivered

We therefore took a two-phased approach to the delivery of the WordPress-based site, agreeing with NP11 to initially produce a “light” version based around the newly-developed branding, before working towards a larger-scale ‘phase 2’ version with a fully bespoke theme and all necessary custom content types and fields.

The phase 1 site was built over a period of four weeks and included information about the organisation, latest news, a call to action for the Convention of the North event as well as links to other sites with further information on the NP11 agenda. It went live on the same day as the ticket sales for the Convention of the North event began and coincided with the launch of the NP11 social media channels.

Our intent with the Phase 2 site was to “wow” visitors with a striking visual approach that saw colour and shape pop from the page. An integral feature of the site is an interactive map, allowing users to click around a graphic representation of the region and see further information about the eleven LEP areas. With SVG and JavaScript technology we delivered this in a fluid, intuitive and engaging way.

The Phase 2 site launched in February 2020, and attracted immediately positive attention from associated stakeholders as well as an enthusiastic reception from the client.
