National communications agency Social Communications has been appointed to support with marketing communications on two frameworks run by government-backed Energy Systems Catapult.
The frameworks will provide strategic marketing support and content development for Energy Systems Catapult, a world-leading centre set up by government to support innovators in unleashing opportunities from the transition to a clean, intelligent energy system. The 160+ staff based in their Birmingham headquarters have a variety of commercial, policy and technical backgrounds, all working to support innovators across the energy sector.
Social Communications beat off competition from 24 agencies to win a place on the two frameworks – and is the only company headquartered in Manchester to be included on those lots.
John Quinton-Barber, Group Chief Executive of Social Communications, said: “We are thrilled to have been appointed to this important Government backed framework which is focussed on meeting the UK’s energy and climate change challenges.
“The opportunities we expect to see through the Catapult are well-aligned with our work for our energy clients, which include national infrastructure investment within the nuclear sector at Hinkley Point, tidal energy and city-wide district heating networks. We are well experienced in managing communication activity across the energy sector, including large offshore wind farms, electrical systems and onshore wind farms.”
“We believe that our track record will add real value to Energy Systems’ Catapult’s work. We’re at the heart of engaging and meaningful debate across a number of sectors. Our team is highly skilled at communicating highly technical and complex information in a way that is understood by many.
Stuart Brennan, Head of Marketing and Communications at Energy Systems Catapult, said: “We are delighted to have Social Communications on board to help us deliver our marketing and communications strategy. Energy Systems Catapult is playing a significant role in driving transformation of the UK energy sector to low carbon, and we look forward to seeing how they can help us tell captivating stories about our work with top UK innovators.”
The appointment to the Energy Systems Catapult frameworks builds on Social Communications’ expertise in the energy and infrastructure sectors, with clients including Vital Energi, Nova Innovation, Nuclear South West and the South West Nuclear Hub.

About the Energy Systems Catapult
Part of a world-leading network of innovation centres, the Energy Systems Catapult was set up by government and has a mission to unleash innovation and open new markets that capture the clean growth opportunity recognised in UK Industrial Strategy.
An independent, not-for-profit organisation, with a vision for the UK energy sector that sees it overcoming systemic barriers and delivering the innovative products, services and value chains required to achieve the UK’s economic ambitions.
Taking a ‘whole energy system’ view – from power, heat and transport to industry, infrastructure and consumers – the Catapult bridges the gap between industry, academia, and government to identify innovation opportunities and gaps in the market, to accelerate the decarbonisation of the energy system at least cost.
By sharing best practice at local, regional, national and international levels, we also act as an ‘impartial broker’, helping to open-up new markets and promote British skills and capabilities.
With 160+ staff based in our Birmingham headquarters with a variety of commercial, policy and technical backgrounds, the Catapult also plays a central role in delivering integration guidance, services and expertise to the Energy Revolution challenge within the Industrial Strategy.
