It’s our first full-scale visit to MIPIM as an agency this year, and it has been great to see how the event operates. The scale of it really has to be seen to be believed. We’ve experienced the organisation that needs to go into getting things right, and it has been fantastic to see the Leeds City Region giving a wonderful account of itself, highlighting inward investment opportunities. On the last day of the event itself (networking opportunities will go on well into the night, and probably the airport tomorrow too) we take another look at the events and announcements making the news.
One of the key organisations attending from the Leeds City Region is the Council itself – who we’ve been working closely with. The big announcement yesterday, was around its bid for £60m of Housing Infrastructure Funding (HIF), which could see thousands of new city centre homes built. Some of the city-centre residential developments already underway are truly impressive, and support Leeds’ aim of creating vibrant and mixed communities.
The Channel 4 reception last night was also a resounding success and it’s clear, as if it wasn’t before, that it will indeed be a ‘game-changing opportunity’ as the event title suggested. As we’ve said on panel events, it’s not so much the jobs Channel 4 will relocate to the City, it’s the vote of confidence, and buzz it’s creating. Our friends over at Insider spoke to Roger Marsh OBE, to find out more.
The level of effort put in by the northern City Regions is showcased through the level of input from senior figures. Andy Burnham set out his plans to make Manchester a top-five tech city by 2026. As Social Communications was founded in Manchester, this is hugely welcome news, and will have wide-reaching benefits across the North.
Events: In terms of events, all eyes will be on Kirklees today. Their council leader will be speaking on the Estates Gazette Panel on creating communities, something we’ve been supporting with our work for SKA Developments. We’ll be watching out for their Greater Waterfront Quarter making a splash, and leave you with the website we created to support their ambition. We hope you like it!
