It may sound like a cliché, but there really is no typical week in any of our offices. What is certain is the diverse range of activity that goes on; and last week was no exception, from events and Government conferences to campaign meetings, consultations and celebrity visits!

Here’s a snapshot of some activity we were busy working on last week…

Our Leeds team support LeedsBID with their 5 year business plan launch

Over the past three months, our Leeds team have been working with long-term client LeedsBID to prepare for their Term Two vote, which opens on 10th October, and to officially launch their Term Two Business Plan at a memorable event in the heart of the city.

Since forming in 2015, LeedsBID has delivered a range of fantastic and huge events whilst enhancing everyday aspects of being in the city over the last five years. Our team were tasked with organising a memorable event for their levy paying community, which celebrated all LeedsBID has achieved to date, while unveiling their plans for the next exciting five years.

Channel 4 presenter George Clarke visits the Social Manchester office

George Clarke popped into the Social Manchester office last Wednesday evening, to meet with our team and discuss phase two of his Council House Scandal campaign. We also gave George a campaign performance update on the hugely successful #CouncilHouse100 work earlier this summer, where we supported George in launching a national campaign for more and better affordable housing.

Social Leeds and Manchester colleagues manage media and social media at Government event Convention of the North with NP11

Last Friday we were managing the media and running social media accounts for the Convention of the North with NP11 event in Rotherham.  This is all part of our work with our client NP11, as we help to raise the profile of the newly formed business-led voice for the North, which is made up of the North’s 11 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).

Hosted on the day by BBC broadcaster Steph McGovern, the event brought together over a thousand influential Northern partners to set out their vision for the North’s future, to discuss how current leaders need to work together to achieve it. Even the Prime Minister decided to join us!

We pay St Ann’s Hospice a visit

We met St Ann’s Hospice in Stockport to discuss potential communications requirements supporting their new £15 million capital fundraising initiative. This will launch as the hospice reaches its 50th anniversary (which makes it one of the few to reach this grand age) and will see a brand new hospice built on a site adjacent to the existing building.

Headline conversations focused around a Call to Action to give a Fiver for 50 and different tactics to attract donations. The meeting took place in the peace room at the hospice, a lovely tranquil setting to chat through potential support Social could provide to complement the inhouse team’s skillsets.

Our Bristol team attend a milestone client conference in Cheshire

We spent a day with the business development team and colleagues at our client Orbis Protect. It was a great way to get to understand their challenges and priorities, and how we can continue to support them.

Orbis has been on a strong growth curve, experiencing increasing double-digit percentage increases in turn-over and profit. We have helped them promote this success in the media and online, providing content for their teams to use too.

We attend the very first Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter network event

The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter encourages and supports employers to develop good jobs, deliver opportunities for people to progress, and help employers to grow and succeed. As a Manchester employer we have committed ourselves to support this and the Charter’s seven Good Employment Principles.

This week’s event was aimed at learning more about the Charter initiated by Andy Burnham.

Our Public Affairs team deliver a public consultation in Salford

We supported our client One Heritage to deliver a public consultation on their exciting plans for landmark 55 residential development in the heart of Salford Council’s Greengate Regeneration Area. The proposals would see the delivery of hundreds of new apartments, as well as a scenic river walkway and community open space on the site providing connections to the wider regeneration area including Market Cross.

One Heritage have a wealth of experience delivering high-quality developments and have already completed a number of successful schemes in Manchester. The proposals have been designed by OMI Architects who are based in Manchester and have already designed numerous schemes in Greengate including One Greengate and Anaconda Cut.

We attend a Women in Property workshop in Bristol

Women In Property is a fantastic group of professionals working across the construction and property sectors.  The nationwide group of volunteers work very hard to create opportunities, expand knowledge and inspire change.  We love being members and look forward to events which involve anything from donning our high-vis for trips to construction sites or learning to drive a digger, to networking lunches and getting our glad rags on for an evening ‘do’.

Last week our Bristol Director Amy attended ‘Challenging Workplace Conversations’, discussing how best to have those tough conversations in and around work.

And to top it all off…

We’ve had new faces join our team and familiar faces receive well deserved promotions! After joining the team in 2017 and continuously impressing both us and her clients, Molly Wright in our Leeds office has been promoted to Account Manager.

We’ve also welcomed a few new faces to the team!  In Leeds Katie Paterson has joined the team from DLA Piper as Account Manager and will be applying her experience in stakeholder engagement and international event management to a number of public and private sector clients. University of Leeds graduate Emily McGowan-Phoenix has also joined the team as Account Executive, working across a number of our Leeds based clients.

Meanwhile in Manchester, Nyree Hughes joins us as our Group PR Consultant.  Nyree will be helping push the work of the business development team as we continue to grow our business.

We celebrated the good news with rooftop waffles!
